Each states real estate board will verify this for you over the telephone. They tend to have live people (hooray!) answering the telephone too, getting an answer does not take much time.

Whatever state you live in you can go online to the state website. Look under real estate licenses--put in the name of the person, if her name is not there, she is not a license broker.

The link below is for California.

Does the card have any website address or name of the realty? Or are they independent? If they do have a website or realty name, you can call or look it up online. Or you can try and google their name with broker (and the state you live in) and see what comes up. Thats how I found my broker and some general information. We are currently looking for a house now too, so GOOD LUCK! :)

Ask to see their license or call your state's real estate license office. This person is likely offering to be a buyer's agent. This should not cost you anything as they will be paid by getting a share of the commission that the seller pays.
