Do you have to work at a broker or firm to have or obtain a Series 7/63 license to sell securities?

I want to get into the financial industry and I am currently one year away from getting my BS in Business/Finance so I wanted to add licensing to my resume. Can I buy materials and study for the exams as a normal person or do I have to be with some financial institution in order to take the exam?

Well for me, in 2005 I was hired by what was them American Express financial advisors, and they said I had to be “sponsored” .

So I think you have to be hired by a company to get them.

Just so you know, I passed the series 7 with no problem, but that #$@#$@# 63! I could pass that after 4 tries, so I had to give up and go with another career.

Make sure you study hard for that test, its crazy.

This was back in 2005, so I dont know if things have changed.

    Good luck! RealEstate
